Payton Tuder (Class of 2020) Commits to Shorter University
Payton Tuder committed this afternoon to continue her softball career beyond high school with Shorter University. Payton committed to Head Coach Danielle Brewer and followed that up with a conversation with Asst Coach Kelsey Hodgson. Shorter University is a very strong Division II school located in Rome GA. They are a member of the Gulf South Conference.
Payton is a slick fielding middle infielder that swings a bat with gap to gap power. She is in her first year with ProStar Fastpitch and bats in the lead-off spot for the 18 under team. Payton has started since her freshman year for the very successful Northwest Whitfield High School Team.
Payton is the daughter of Charles and Marlena Tuder and maintains 3.92 GPA. At Shorter University she is undecided on her major at this time but is looking into Accounting, Political Science, or Criminal Justice.
QUOTES FROM PAYTON:
"I have had Shorter University as my top choice for several months now. Once I joined ProStar we put together a plan of visits, camps, and tournaments at numerous schools but at each visit my focus shifted more and more to Shorter. I want to thank Coach Brewer and Coach Hodgson for this opportunity. I have attended camps , made visits, and watched their games. I will enjoy having them as coaches the next few years."
"I need to thank several people for helping me achieve this opportunity to play at Shorter University. First of all I would like to thank God, my family, and the coaches at both Northwest Whitfield and ProStar Fastpitch. I have played for Coach Middleton (Northwest Whitfield) for several years in school and Select ball. Coach Chattin and the ProStar staff were able to help me polish my abilities and open doors for me to be looked at by several schools."
"I know I mentioned my family already but in addition to choosing Shorter University for the academics and the softball the proximity to my immediate family was a huge plus in my decision process. If you know anything about us you know that my parents, my sister, my aunts and uncles, and my grandparents attend as many games as they can. I enjoy having their support and I know they enjoy watching me play. I would not be the athlete or person I am without their support."
QUOTES FROM COACH CHATTIN:
"I am extremely proud of Payton in her decision making process. She knew where she wanted to further her education but she took her time and looked at multiple options before making that verbal commitment today."
"ProStar and myself had attempted to convince Payton to join our program in the past and we were thrilled when she joined us in August. She is one of the hardest workers in the program. She is an extremely talented infielder with a very quick release which will benefit her at the next level. For a petite young lady she possesses true gap to gap power. I expect great things out of her at Shorter!"
During her high school years she has received numerous academic and athletic honors. Some of those honors include:
Mathematics Academic Award
Foreign Language Academic Award
Academic Honor Roll
Academic Letter Winner
Member of the Spanish Honor Society
6-AAAA All Region
Northwest Whitfield High School Gold Glove Award
Northwest Whitfield Defensive Player of the Year

Torrey Cummings (Class of 2022) Commits to University of North Georgia
Torrey Cummings (Class of 2022) committed to the University of North Georgia while playing in the USA 16U Nationals this week in Salem VA. Torrey made an unofficial visit to UNG last week and secured her offer. Torrey is one of the top hitters in her class in the South. She is in her second year with ProStar Fastpitch and will be a sophomore this year at Northwest Whitfield High School. The University of North Georgia is a perennial D-II softball power based in Dahlonega GA and coached by Mike Davenport. They are a member of the Peach Belt Conference and won the National Championship in 2015.
Torrey has legitimate home run power and excellent baserunning speed. For ProStar Fastpitch she plays 3B / OF / 1B and is expected to be the starting third baseman for Northwest Whitfield this fall. She is the daughter of Zack and Paula Cummings. Her brother Jake is a student at New Hope Middle School. Torrey maintains a 4.0 GPA and was a member of the 2018 Homecoming Court. Quotes from Torrey:
"I would like to thank my parents for the support they have given me over the years as I have pursued my dream of playing softball. I also know that I am blessed with God-given abilities and it is my responsibility to use these to the best of my abilities."
"I am relatively new to the collegiate recruiting process but since joining ProStar Fastpitch I have attended multiple camps and visited several colleges. Once I visited UNG and had the opportunity to speak with Coach Davenport I immediately knew that this was going to be my collegiate home. Upon the advice of Coach Davenport I took several days of prayer before I announced my decision."
"I would like to thank all of the coaches I have had over the years in Select and school ball. In particular I would like to thank Coach Chattin and the staff of ProStar Fastpitch for the coaching and guidance in the recruiting process. Without their help I would not have been prepared to make a decision this early."
Quotes from Coach Chattin:
"It was apparent the type of athlete Torrey had the potential to become when I first saw her in a tryout. She quickly grasped the coaching techniques and the hard work required to be a success at the elite level. In the last two years she has become one of the top hitters in the South. She has gap to gap power and is a true home run threat."
"Torrey understands the importance of academics in the pursuit of her athletic goals. She is a leader and a positive influence at all times. As talented as she is now I know that she understands this commitment is just the beginning and not the end of the process. We are excited and extremely proud of Torrey as she joins the UNG family. Coach Davenport and ProStar Fastpitch have an outstanding relationship due to the success of Shelby Hammontree at UNG."

Aly is a power hitting catcher and has played in the top tournaments in the Southeast as a former member of ProStar Fastpitch. This coming season she has aged out of the ProStar program and will be a member of the Ga Fire - Walling team. "I want to thank my parents not only for their support but for instilling in me my love and passion for the game. I am blessed to have parents that have provided me the opportunities to play and practice at the highest levels. They are not only my support system they are my best friends."
"I really did not play for a college scholarship. I play because I like to compete and I love the game. I love the feeling I get when I step behind the plate and work with my pitcher and the umpires. It truly is my happy place to on the softball field. I did not have to be taught to be positive and upbeat --- that is just my personality."
"I would like to thank Coach Chattin and the ProStar staff for guiding me in the recruiting process and helping me to improve my game. I enjoyed my visit this past summer to Erskine and I fell in love with Coach Hawkins and the program she has at Erskine. I find lots of similarities between her and Coach Chattin. I believe it will be an easy transition for me at Erskine."
QUOTES FROM COACH CHATTIN:
"It has been a pleasure to coach Aly from the very first day she joined ProStar Fastpitch. She brings and unbridled enthusiasm and a genuine love for the game at all practices and games. In addition she is extremely mature for her age."
"Aly is definitely the QB of the team behind the plate. Her defensive mechanics and her arm are outstanding. She is a rock of strength and leadership at the catching position and her pitchers love the way she receives the ball. She is able to transfer her confidence to her pitching staff----even on the days when the pitchers may not be at their best."
"While Aly is a great power hitter now I feel her potential is off the charts. Her understanding of her swing and her approach at the plate has improved every year in our program. She is very young for her graduating class and her physical strength will continue to grow. She is going to be greatly missed within the ProStar program this year."
